Corneal transplantation (surgical replacement of diseased cornea with a healthy cornea from donated eyes) has evolved into component corneal surgery. In this, only the diseased layer of the cornea is replaced, while retaining the healthy layers of the patient’s cornea.
- Superficial / Deep Anterior Lamellar Keratoplasty (DALK) – selective transplantation of the front layers of the cornea for cases with an undamaged inner layer of the cornea
- Endothelial Keratoplasty (DSAEK / DSEK / DMEK) – selective transplantation of the inner layer of the cornea, when the front layers are undamaged
Penetrating Keratoplasty (PK) – full thickness corneal transplantation for cases with damage to the entire cornea
